1,000 MW solar park to come up in Mahabubnagar, Telangana government drew up action plan for the promotion of renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power generation in a big way in the next four years.
Addressing the press here, TSSPDCL (Southern Power Distribution Company Limited) Chairman and Managing Director G Raghuma Reddy said a solar park with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW at Gattu mandal in Mahabubnagar district was coming up.
Government had already taken up land acquisition for the project which will give a big boost to the State in inviting huge investments in solar power sector.
Stating that the renewable energy sources would help to overcome the State power crisis, he said a 100 MW wind power project would be established at Parigi in Ranga Reddy district under Public Private Partnership (PPP). It is expected Rs 6,000 crore investments in the solar and wind power projects.
Reddy said the bids called to set up solar plants with an installed capacity of 500 MW would be finalised by the government soon. The overwhelming response from the entrepreneurs for the project was an indication to encourage solar power in the future, he added.
Besides establishing mega projects, the official said people were encouraged to set up roof top solar power generation units by offering incentives. The excess power generated from the small units would be purchased at the cost of Rs 3.38 per unit by the Discoms.
