The AP Express to be renamed Telangana Express within a week said by South Central Railway general manager P.K. Srivastava. The Hyderabad-New Delhi-Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh Express would be renamed as ‘Telangana Express’ within a week.
The renaming of the prestigious super fast express has been demanded by the Telangana government as the train went as AP Express in the combined State.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has already taken up with the Railway Ministry the name change of not only AP Express, but the present Telangana Express which runs between Hyderabad and Sirpur Kagaznagar in Adilabad.
The latter train should be named after the legendary Gond leader Komuram Bhim.
Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu also took up the issue of changing the name of AP Express with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu.
Mr. Naidu demanded that a new AP Express be introduced between Visakhapatnam and New Delhi.
Mr. Srivastava said SCR has registered a growth of 26 per cent in freight earnings in the last fiscal. It was phenomenal because across the country the average growth registered by other zones was 4 per cent.
