To ensure peace and law and order in Osmania University, the Hyderabad City Police on Friday said that they will not accord permission to host Beef and Pork Festivals in the campus. The decision of police comes in the wake of plans of various student organizations to organize ‘beef and pork festivals’ in the campus on December 10.
“In order to maintain peace and tranquillity, it has been decided not to permit celebration of any festivities in the campus by any students/organizations/groups in the next few days as proposed,” said East Zone DCP a Ravinder on Friday.
He requested the student community and others to cooperate in this regard. “All possible steps shall be taken to maintain peace and tranquillity the Osmania University campus,” the DCP said in a statement.
Earlier, some student organizations had declared that they would organize beef and pork festivals in the university campus on December 10, which coincides with the World Human Rights Day.
Reacting to the students’ proposal, Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh had said that he would stop the proposed beef festival and gave a call for ‘Chalo University’ on the same day.
The university authorities have clearly said that it would not allow the students to take part in any activities other than academics and warned them of stern action if they violated the university regulations.
Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission, Hyderabad, had sent notices to the City Police to give a report by December 8, about the possibility of threat to the OU students by Goshamahal MLA Raja Singh, who is strongly opposing the flesh festivities proposed by students.
