Boat Service Akkamahadevi caves: Minister for Industries Jupally Krishna Rao, along with Tourism Minister Azmeera Chandulal, on Friday reviewed implementation of tourism facilities at Somasila and operation of boat service to Akkamahadevi caves and to Srisailam dam (Telangana region).
Boat Service Akkamahadevi caves
The Forest officials told the Minister that Akkamahadevi caves was part of the eco-tourism zone incorporated in the tiger conservation plan and hence approaching the eco tourism site could not be denied for eco tourism purposes.
Officials said that a boat docking facility at the dam site was required and Irrigation Department’s permission was needed to construct the facility.
Also, permission of the Forest Department was needed if the site was located in the reserve forest or tiger reserve area. The Minister also discussed entry fee to the caves, along with the boating ticket, and remitting the amount to the Forest Department.
Jupally sought information on allowing fishing in the waters in the reserve forest area without harming wildlife.
Similarly, forest officials said that they would also involve locals in operating boats from Srisailam to Akka Mahadevi caves from the Left Bank canal, which is located in Mahabubnagar district.
Conservation of forests
“The presence of Telangana people at the caves would also help in conservation of the forest,” officials added.
According to CBET, 50 per cent of revenue generated would be used for maintenance and further development of that particular tourist spot while the rest will be paid to those who are involved in its operation.
The decision would shut the doors on AP Tourism river cruises to Akka Mahadevi caves and would also render private boat operators jobless.
Since the boat travelling to Akka Mahadevi caves from Pathalaganga in Srisailam is considered most exciting among all at Srisailam, the AP Tourism Department’s division at Srisailam would lose a big share of revenue to Telangana since it earns about Rs. 8 lakh a month from cruise operations to Akka Mahadevi caves.
