G Narayana Rao Constable of special branch who was praised by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao for discharging duties honestly, attempted suicide at his residence on Saturday over alleged harassment by senior police officers.
Constable praised by CM attempts suicide
G Narayana Rao, a constable working with special branch wing of city police and posted in Jubilee Hills police station, received reward and honours from the CM and also from senior police officers for rejecting bribe from a citizen to carry out an official activity.
Just 100 days after receiving appreciation from the CM, the constable Narayana Rao attempted suicide at his home in Jubilee Hills by consuming sleeping pills.
The Jubilee Hills police received information about the suicide attempt and rushed to the spot. The constable was shifted to a private hospital in Ameerpet for treatment.
Sources said that Narayana Rao was facing problem from a senior police officer of west zone. A police officer of deputy superintendent rank was harassing the constable who gained fame for his honesty, the sources said.
On March 1, Narayana Rao, who verified the authenticity of a passport applicant, denied taking money from the applicant’s father. Surprised by his honesty, the applicant’s father informed CMO about the same.
The CM felicitated the police constable at his office on the same day on March 1. Constable Narayana Rao was also felicitated by his bosses the next day. Referring to Narayana Rao, the CM asked the police officers of the State to serve people honestly and deliver their duties honestly.
