One more jewel in Hyderabad city’s tourist hub. The Dalai Lama Centre for Ethics and Values at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge has decided to establish its centre in Hyderabad.
Minister K T Rama Rao said that the government would give five acres of land for the Centre.
It wanted to set up a centre in South Asia, searched for suitable places and finally zeroed in on Hyderabad. The Dalai Lama Centre is dedicated to inquiry, dialogue, and education on the ethical and humane dimensions of life.
Centre director Tenzin Priyadarshini called on municipal administration minister KT Rama Rao and tourism ninister Azmeera Chandulal here on Tuesday and informed them that they were establishing their centre in Hyderabad as it had all basic amenities and in the backdrop of the rich cultural heritage of Telangana state.
“Telangana is the third-largest state with Buddhist historic sites,” Rama Rao informed Tenzin. Nagarjuna Sagar and other places were examples of Buddhist culture in the state and they would be proud to have the Dalai Lama Centre in the city, Rao said.
State to Invite Dalai Lama
KTR said they would invite the Dalai Lama for the inauguration of the Buddhavan project being taken up for the development of Buddhism in the state.
