Hyderabad: Popular film director and cartoonist Bapu (Sattiraju Lakshmi Narayana) died in Chennai on Sunday evening. He was 80. Bapu died of heart attack while undergoing treatment for some age-related ailments at Mallar Hospital in Chennai. He was a painter, illustrator, cartoonist and designer.
In 2013, he was awarded Padma Shri, for his contribution to Indian art and cinema. He directed 51 filmsincluding 12 Hindi films in his career.
The last film he directed was “Sriramarajyam” starring Nandamuri Balakrishna and Nayanatara. Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu and director Raghavendra Rao expressed grief over his demise.
