Hyderabad shivers for chilly weather as rains lash Telangana, With various parts of the city lashed by rain on Saturday night and Sunday, visibility was low throughout the day. Two flights were delayed due to heavy smog formation over the Shamshabad airport on Sunday.

A Jet Airways flight from Mumbai was delayed due to the smog while the departure of an Indigo flight to Pune was also delayed. The situation improved by late evening.

On Sunday, the northeast monsoon was vigorous over south coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema and many areas in AP and Telangana received heavy rainfall.

Meteorological department officials said that the current chilly conditions were likely to continue for the next 48 hours in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Director, Indian Meteorological Department Hyderabad, Mr K. Sitaram, said, “The Northeast monsoon, which has been vigorous over South Costal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, will continue till mid November and lead to rain in the Telangana region including Hyderabad. This monsoon will facilitate the onset of winter by second week of December.”

The chilly weather conditions are due to inflow of winds from North India, which are being pulled by the deep depression system developing in Arabian Sea.

The depression might further turn into a cyclone, which is moving towards Oman.

IMD has forecast heavy rains in Khammam, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad in Telangana in the next 48 hours.
