Hyderabad to host World IT Congress 2018, Telangana State CM K Chandrasekhar Rao agreed to the request of NASSCOM president R Chandrashekhar and VC BVR Mohan Reddy for hosting the World Congress on Information Technology (WCIT) in Hyderabad during February 2018.
The 2014 WCIT was held in Mexico and the 2016 WCIT would be held in Brazil. It was proposed during the 2014 conference that the 2018 edition should be held in India.

According to NASSCOM, whose membership includes representation from 130 countries, 3,000 to 4,000 delegates from about 80 to 90 countries would participate in the conference.

Shortly 5,000 acres of land would be earmarked for the IT Park, which would also have a couple of helipads, residential facilities, shopping complexes, lawns etc.
The IT Park would be a beautiful smart city, he said. KCR said that ahead of the conference, 4G technology should be in place and the Telangana State should be power surplus.
He said that he would like to highlight the Industrial Policy of the State at the conference. The Chief Minister suggested that a high-level delegation should attend the 2016 WCIT to be held in Brazil to understand the modalities and other requirements for hosting the meet.
He suggested to IT Minister KT Rama Rao and IT principal secretary Haripreet Singh to work on accommodation and logistic requirements.
In addition, they should hold discussions with NASSCOM representatives from time to time on the arrangements. Panchayat Raj and Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao, principal secretary of IT Haripreet Singh and principal secretary to CMO S Narsing Rao were present when the NASSCOM president and vice president called on the Chief Minister.
