The vigilance wing of the university unearthed the fact that several faculty members have been working in more than one college.

JNTU Blacklists 903 Lecturers

On the basis of Aadhaar cards and PAN cards submitted by the faculty members and other details furnished by them, the vigilance department officials conducted an inquiry and exposed the misdeeds of some faculty members.

In some cases, each faculty member was found to be working in nearly ten colleges and playing havoc with the academics of students.

Besides unearthing lecturers working in more than one college, faculty members working without proper and valid qualifications also came to light during the investigations.

Under the jurisdiction of the JNTU, there are 266 engineering and 145 B Pharma colleges with over 10,000 faculty members.

The committee blacklisted such faculty members and placed their names on the university’s website. The university officials have been exploring ways and means to initiate criminal proceedings against the blacklisted teachers.

The JNTU served notices on 40 engineering and B Pharma colleges and sought explanation within ten days. Suitable action would be initiated depending on the response to the notices served.

The students unions have been blaming lackadaisical attitude of the JNTU authorities, whom the unions accused of turning a blind eye when such incidents had come to light in the past. The irate unions have been suggesting closing down such colleges to act as a deterrent.

The Students’ Federation of India observed that there are very few qualified teachers. Despite some colleges collecting huge fees are not providing quality faculty members.

Vigilance raids in colleges should be stepped up to bring the erring college managements under control. According to JNTU registrar Yadaiah, rules indicate that a faculty member should work the whole academic year only in one college.

Giving a go-by to the rules, they are registering themselves as faculty members in more than one college. As a result, educational standards are falling.
