Johnson & Johnson, a multi-national medical devices, pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods giant, is planning to set up a it’s biggest India manufacturing plant in Telangana, to manufacture baby products.
Telangana Chief Minister KCR will Thursday lay the foundation stone for the American MNC’s plant in Penjerla village in Mahabubnagar district, about 60 km from Hyderabad.
The investment for the proposed plant is expected to be about Rs 400-450 crore in several phases. The company is expected to make consumer healthcare products, specially baby care & consumer goods products at the plant.
The plant is coming up on 48 acres and will be functional from 2016 by employing 1500 workers. It will manufacture hygiene and consumer goods products.
Reports say that the company is looking to expand its range of over-the-counter products across all its categories with aggressive marketing strategies and ramping up distribution network to take on its rivals.
Geographically, Mahabubnagar would sit well into that strategy and so the choice. Johnson & Johnson has been operating in the country for over 65 years with its businesses spread across consumer, medical devices, diagnostics, pharmaceuticals and vision care.
