The party’s national leadership appointed Dr Laxman along with presidents of Karnataka, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab units.

“I accepted the post as per the wishes of my party leadership. I thank them for reposing faith in me,” he said, adding that his goal was to make the TS BJP a viable alternative to the TRS.
Dr Laxman said that the BJP would pressurise the TRS to implement its election manifesto and in case of failure, would go to people to expose it. Born on July 3, 1956, Dr Laxman grew from an ABVP activist to become Hyderabad city president and a two-time MLA.
The outgoing president G. Kishan Reddy’s term was over long back and the party high command was also not so happy with his performance.
Despite a traditional cadre base in Telangana for decades, BJP could hardly make its presence felt in the 2014 Assembly elections and also in subsequent municipal elections, especially in recent GHMC elections. The party has five seats in the Assembly and Laxman is the leader of the legislative party.
A second time MLA, Laxman represented the same Musheerabad constituency during 1999-2004. He was the president of the city BJP from 1995 to 99 and received doctorate from geology after completing his M.Sc. from Osmania University.
