The Chief Minister of Telangana K.Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday launched GHMC Driver cum Owner scheme and handed over 303 Cabs to selected persons at a function held at Necklace Road. Greeting the driver cum owners on the occasion, Rao said that unemployed youth can see light in their lives by eking out their livelihood.
He said that another 600 cabs will be distributed to people in the days to come. Now it is up to the driver cum owners to steer themselves to meaningful and disciplined lives by offering unswerving services to the people in the twin cities, the chief minister stated.
He criticized the previous governments for destroying Hyderabad and failure to provide adequate facilities. criticised the Congress and TDP governments for ignoring the development of Hyderabad and said his government was drafting plans to convert the city into a truly global one.

Speaking at a “GHMC Driver cum Owner” scheme function Mr.Rao said the city was targeted by the land mafia and encroachers all these years and added that in Telangana State, a high level of planning was being put in place for overall development.
The Chief Minister expressed his government’s readiness to provide the required land to the Union government for setting up a skill development university that could impart training and help generate employment opportunities.
Hyderabad being selected to host the World IT meet in 2018 was a matter of pride for the city, he said. Mr. Rao also directed GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar to provide another 600 cabs under the civic body scheme to unemployed youths.
The Union Minister of State for Labour, Bandaru Dattatreya, appealed to the Chief Minister for land to set up the skill development university. Mr. Somesh Kumar said the Driver-cum-Owner scheme entailed a budget of Rs.21 crore of which Rs.3 crore was provided as subsidy by the State government.Some 105 cabs would be taken by GHMC itself on rental basis.
