Power generation in the State would be augmented with the Singareni’s 600 MW plant starting commercial production from May 20 2016. In all likelihood, the Chief Minister would dedicate the plant to the nation at the end of the month. This would be the third power plant in the State to begin production after Telangana was formed.
Earlier, the Kakatiya Thermal Plant’s second unit at Bhupalapalli in Warangal district started commercial production.
KCR to Dedicate Singareni Power Plant
The BHEL-built power plant at Kothagudem also went into commercial operations. The Bhupalapalli plant was built by Genco and next two by the public sector organisations BHEL and Singareni. Singareni built its plant at Jaipur in Adilabad district as part of its plans to establish 1,200 MW power plants.
The first unit of the Singareni plant is all set to begin production this month. The Telangana Electricity Regulatory Commission has to endorse the power purchase agreement between Singareni and TS Transco.
Singareni’s plant has taken up the thermal power production in the State to nearly 4,000 MW. Genco has been generating about 2,228 MW from its units at Kothagudem, Ramagundam and Bhupalapalli. The hydel power generation has a capacity of 2,161 MW and the combined capacity of Genco is 4,445 MW.
With the addition through Singareni and BHEL, along with BHEL plant, the total power production capacity in the State has gone up to 6,000 MW.
N Sridhar, managing director of Singareni Collieries, the promoter of Jaipur plant, on Wednesday inspected the works of the first plant and directed the officials to keep the plant ready for commercial production. He said that the first plant, which was synchronised with the Power Grid last month, should start production from May 20. He said that the trial runs should be conducted continuously.
He said production should be continued with the coal as the conveyer belt system was in place. The managing director of Singareni said that the second unit should also come into production at the earliest. He fixed the schedules for each work of the plant during a review meeting.
