Mission Bhagiratha Drinking water under the scheme will not be supplied free of cost and consumers will be charged for the water consumed, minister for municipal administration & urban development and panchat raj KT Rama Rao has said.
As the government is going to supply potable drinking water, consumers have to pay monthly water bills. Water committees from women’s self-help groups will be formed for collection of water cess.

Answering a question from G Kishore Kumar, P Madhukar and others in the Assembly on Thursday, the minister said Mission Bhagiratha was proposed to cover 24,224 habitations in 99 Assembly constituencies at an estimated cost of Rs 36,990.54 crore (can go up to Rs 40,000 crore).
NABARD, HUDCO and other financial institutions are extending financial assistance for the scheme. The NABARD and HUDCO loans, amounting to around Rs 20,000 crore, will help the government complete 70 to 75 per cent of the project and the remaining fund has been sought from the Centre.
State Bank of India (SBI) and a consortium of banks will also provide loans as the state government will give counter guarantee.
The minister said about 6,100 habitations would be covered under the scheme by December this year.
