The Government of Telangana has given administrative approval for comprehensive restoration of 279 minor irrigation tanks under the ‘Mission Kakatiya’ programme with an estimated cost of Rs. 123.07 crore.
The tanks are located in Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, Nizamabad, Medak and Ranga Reddy districts and have an ayacut of 41,010 acres together under them. Orders to the effect were issued by Principal Secretary (Irrigation) S.K. Joshi on Wednesday in the form of two GOs.
The programme is aimed at restoration of minor irrigation tanks in the State to their original capacity of water storage and irrigation potential besides improving the groundwater table by effectively utilising 265 TMC ft of water allocated for them in the Godavari and Krishna river basins.
The State government has already identified over 45,000 such tanks for restoration in five years under the flagship programme.
According to the orders, the district-wise tanks given administration approval for restoration are:
