Mission Kakatiya Phase 2 Works will be starts from January 2016

11/03/2015 By admin

Mission Kakatiya Phase 2 Works: Having learnt lessons from the hurdles faced during the first phase of Mission Kakatiya, the Telangana government has come out with a time-bound action plan for the revival of tanks under the second phase of the programme.

Mission Kakatiya Phase 2

Mission Kakatiya Phase 2

The Minister said his department has been reorganised by appointing sufficient staff for timely completion of works

Inaugurating a workshop ahead of launching the second phase, Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao said here on Monday that 50 per cent of works would be launched by January 7 and the rest by January 22.

“Taking into account the hiccups in executing works in the first phase, foolproof arrangements have been made to complete the works on schedule,” the Minister said. Instructing the officials to complete all pending works before March 31, Harish said the department had been reorganised by appointing sufficient staff in every district for the timely completion of works.

“Rs 2,200 crore had been earmarked for the restoration and revival of tanks every year. In united Andhra Pradesh, the then State government allocated only Rs 1,400 crore for minor irrigation for five years,” he observed.

Harish said it was unfortunate that tanks were not filled with water as the State received scanty rainfall this year. However, farmers in Khammam, Warangal and Adilabad districts, which received normal rainfall, protected their crops by using water from revived tanks.

“The tanks would have have been filled with water if the State received bountiful rainfall”, Harish said. He added that transparency adopted in executing the works received accolades from many including the World Bank.

Finance Minister E Rajender said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s initiative and the Irrigation Minister’s commitment was the secret behind successful implementation of Mission Kakatiya. State Irrigation Secretary S K Joshi and Engineer-in-Chief K Madhava Rao and others were also present.

“I am surprised to know that the State government has taken up the programme. In Rajasthan, we launched a movement without the help of the government and created 11,000 water bodies over a period of time,” he said.

The Mission Kakatiya programme would help improve groundwater level, increase rainfall and tackle drought situations in the days to come. “It’s good to know that the initiative came from the government. Now, people should be involved to make it a grand success,” Mr. Rajendra Singh said.

He visited four tanks in three mandals – Mangal cheruvu in Nallabelli mandal, Uracheruvu in Chennaraopet mandal and Pattipaka and Appalraopet village tanks in Nekkonda mandals here.

He also interacted with farmers, Irrigation Department officials and local people’s representatives. Besides apprising them about the movement in Rajasthan, he learnt about Mission Kakatiya programme at the village level.

Mr. Singh, who offered prayers at the temples abutting the tanks in villages, said water was precious and temples adjacent to tanks culturally unite people. People should worship water and learn to conserve it for a better future.

“This is only a beginning. All sections of the society should take part in this noble mission of water conservation along with the State government,” he said.

Mr. Singh favoured repairs and restoration of small water bodies and more watershed structures to be built wherever possible.

KCR launched Mission Kakatiya at Chandupatla (VI) Nalgonda

04/27/2015 By admin

The Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday 26-04-2015 Launched Telangana State Prestigious Project MISSION KAKATIYA  at Chandupatla Village, Nalgonda District. CM KCR said that as much as 260 tmc ft of water could be stored in the Tstates irrigation tanks after restoration through Mission Kakatiya and most innovative programm were planned for telangana peoples as telangana water grid too.

The CM participated in a Mission Kakatiya programme at Chand-upatla village in the Nakrekal Assembly segment of Nalgonda district, where the famous Kakatiya queen Rudra-madevi had become a martyr in war 800 years ago.

Mr Rao said his government had taken up the restoration works of all tanks in Telangana that was constructed and conceived by the Kakatiya Reddy rulers.

He also assured that his government would make all efforts to get proper share to the state in sharing of river waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. When a woman from the gathering, said they would fight with Andhra Pradesh rulers to bring water to the state, the Chief Minister felt that he wants such type of support and directed his personal staff to collect her details and phone number.

Impressed by the size of Pedda Cheruvu of Chandupatla village, the Chief Minister felt that Rs 50 lakh sanctioned for restoration of the tank under Mission Kakatiya were not sufficient for desilting in 102-acre tank bid and announced additional Rs 1.5 crore for the tank.If the feeder channels were constructed to the tank from Puttagandi project, sufficient water levels would be available in the tank throughout the year, he opined.

Chandupatla to be Made Tourist Spot

CM KCR said that an old stone inscription found in the village suggests that Rani Rudrama Devi was killed in a battle by Kayastha Ambadevudu in the same village. Also, a statue of Rudrama devi was found in the village, he added.

“However, due to the discrimination of Andhra rulers, the historical facts and the importance of the village did not come to light. The village tank too was left undeveloped,” he said.

Promising to make the village a tourist spot, Rao said the government would install a statue of Rudrama Devi and also conduct Kakatiya Utsavalu in the village. Spread in an area of 102 acres, the Pedda Cheruvu is being revived by the government and for this, an amount of Rs 55 lakh was already sanctioned. Rao, however, felt the amount is not enough and announced Rs 1.50 crore for renovating the tank.

Thousands of acres of agriculture land in seven villages under the tank will get water after the renovation of the tank.

Mission Kakatiya Results are coming

04/17/2015 By admin

The Telangana state government’s ambitious project Mission Kakatiya to renovation ponds and minor irrigation tanks in the State, project hitting the right results already. A brief spell of rain the other day has filled the otherwise dry lakes with good amount of water giving an aesthetically pleasing view.

A good example being Rayan Cheruvu located in Rustapur of Nalgonda district. Restoration works in this minor irrigation tank began on March 27 in the presence of Bhongir MP Narsaiah Goud and Government Whip Gongidi Sunitha. It was totally dry and weeds and bushes spread all over it for several decades. However, courtesy of Mission Kakatiya, desilting works are going at a full speed and this tank has been cleaned up to 20 per cent thus far.
Mission Kakatiya Results

  • Rayan Cheruvu in Nalgonda district filled with rainwater
  • Experts are confident of success of the project

Silt accumulated up to 6 feet in the tank. In the meantime, unseasonal rains lashed the village resulting in accumulation of good quantity of water. The significance attached to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s plans to bring life into tanks and lakes could be easily understood by taking a look at present condition of Rayan Cheruvu, according to Upender Reddy, the deputy sarpanch of the village. If a brief spell of rain could transform this dry tank, copious amount of rain would surely lead to Rayan Cheruvu brimming with water this monsoon, he felt.

Meanwhile, experts noted that every tank and lake (which undergoes restoration works this year) would be resembling ‘Rayan Cheruvu’ in few months time. The objective of Mission Kakatiya is to enhance the promotion of agriculture-based income for small and marginal farmers, by accelerating the development of minor irrigation infrastructure, strengthening community- based irrigation management and adopting a comprehensive programme for restoration of tanks.

This drive will also increase groundwater levels and water quality significantly thereby getting lands beyond command area under bore well irrigation. The mission aims at restoring the past glory of minor irrigation in the state with community participation for ensuring sustainable water security.

NITI Aayog Team appreciated for Mission Kakatiya

04/11/2015 By admin

The NITI Aayog team on Friday appreciated the Telangana State government’s flagship ‘Mission Kakatiya’ as a great program in the Telangana State. The NITI Aayog team comprising its member V K Saraswat and advisor Ajay Jain examined lakes restoration works, which began as part of Mission Kakatiya, at Pidichedu village in Gajwel mandal in Medak district here.

Later, they appreciated the government for its vision to increase groundwater table and provide timely irrigation waters to local farmers from the nearby lakes and water bodies.

“The works are going on a fast pace and will make the lakes and ponds abundant with water sources, and help sustain groundwater level,” NITI Aayog team members said.

They also said farmers would get organic fertilisers through lakes restoration and shift the same to their fields to increase the produce and reap better benefits. Keeping this in view, the other States can emulate Telangana State in implementing lakes restoration works, they said.

It may be noted that the team called on Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Thursday and discussed allocation of funds to the State under various heads. The Chief Minister reportedly sought the NITI Aayog team to set aside FRBM (Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management) norms for time being to get more borrowings from various monetary institutions and funds from the Centre.

It is likely that the NITI Aayog (formerly Planning Commission) will announce budgetary allocations to Telangana government after its official tour in the State.
