Sitarama Lift Irrigation Project
Redesigning of Dummugudem Lift Irrigation Project will be a boon to Khammam district. The dry lands in Yellandu, Tirumapalyapalem, Khammam Rural and Kusumanchi mandals will be irrigated with the new plan.
Previously, it was planned to lift 80 tmc water from Godavari river at Pamulapadu in the monsoon and taken to tail-pond at Nagarjunasagar reservoir. The project was planned to stabilise the aycut area of Nagarjunasagar project and make available water in Srisailam Project to send it to the Rayalaseema projects through Pothireddypadu.
The project will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore to bring about 5 lakh acres of dry land under irrigation in the district, he said. Speaking to media here on Saturday, Nageswara Rao said the project was proposed long back.
The minister also said due to construction of the Sitarama Irrigation Project, as many as 22 out of 42 mandals would be covered in the district and majority of lands would be irrigated.
The minister also assured that the project would be completed within four years and that about 50 TMC water would be drawn from Godavari River and diverted to lands through this project.

Sitarama irrigation project tenders
The detailed project report for Sitarama lift irrigation project – the redesigned Dummugudem lift irrigation scheme envisaging integration of Rajivsagar and Indirasagar projects – will be finalised in one week and the tenders will be called soon, said Minister for Roads and Buildings T. Nageswara Rao.
He was talking to mediapersons in connection with Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s ensuing visit to the district to lay the foundation for the reservoir proposed under the redesigned project at Rollapadu in Tekulapalli mandal on February 16.
The Sitarama project, which is estimated to cost Rs. 7,000 crore, will bring the entire cultivable land in the district to an extent of over five lakh acres under the irrigation cover.
The redesigning of the lift irrigation scheme was necessitated in view of the “utter neglect” of it by the previous government, which failed to create new irrigation potential despite huge spending, and technical problems that surfaced in the aftermath of the transfer of Velerupadu mandal to Andhra Pradesh in 2014, he said.
