In recent years, North America has become a potential market for Telugu movies after Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka. Many Tollywood film-makers have tried to explore this international market in a very a big way, but some of them have proved successful in their attempt with their movies becoming biggest money at the ticket counters in these counties.
So far, Tollywood has released over 154 movies including 20 dubbed films in this year. Over 60 Telugu films including few dubbed movies have hit the screens in the US, but very few of them have proved successful. Films like “Loafer”, “Attack”, “Soggade Chinni Nayana”, “Soukhyam”, “Mama Manchu Alludu Kanchu” and “Bhale Manchi Roju” are slated to hit the theatres in the next 15 days of December.
Among the big ticket Tollywood release, SS Rajamouli’s “Baahubali: the Beginning” has been the most successful movie of the year. The movie was released in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi languages in this country and has collected $6,460,124 (Rs 41.45 crore) from it Telugu version, $567,227 (Rs 3.63 crore) from its Tamil version and $481,469 (Rs 3.21 crore) at the US box office.
“Baahubali: the Beginning” has collected a total of $7,508,820 (Rs 48.29 crore) from its three versions at the US box office. The movie has become the all time highest grosser movie in Tollywood. It has also set a new mile stone in Indian cinema. Its overseas distributors are all thrilled over its performances.
Mahesh Babu’s Srimanthudu is another landmark Telugu film of the year. The film has collected $2,891,758 (Rs 19.22 crore) at the US box office in its life time. It has become the second all time heist grosser Telugu movie in the country. After seeing its massive opening, trade experts had predicted it to cross the mark of $3 million, but it failed to surpass it.
Nani’s “Bhale Bhale Magadivoi”, which is made on shoe-string budget, has become the surprise hit of the industry in this year. The movie has collected $1,427,092 (Rs 9.24 crore) at the US box office and become the third highest grosser Telugu movie of the year.
“Son of Satyamurthy” and “Temper” have also done very good collection at the US box office and crossed the mark of $1 million. “Rudramadevi” and “Gopala Gopala” have done decent business in the country. They were also predicted to join the club of the movies that have crossed $1 million, but they could not achieve this magical mark.
