Touted as a state-of-the-art centre for training and research in the field of vehicle and driving techniques, the International Driving Training and Research Institute (IDTRI) will soon be a reality in Sircilla constituency. Incidentally, the facility is the second in southern India. The other one is located in Tamil Nadu.

It might be noted here that the upcoming IDTRI is aimed at promoting road safety and imparting safe driving practices in the country. Besides this, the facility which is expected to train around 20,000 persons every year has scope to generate employment opportunities in the region.

It has been over a year since the proposal for establishing the IDTRI under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) was mooted first involving State government, Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and the Hinduja Group flagship company Ashok Leyland.

In this backdrop, the district administration had earmarked 20 acres near Mandepalli village under Sircilla mandal to set up the institute. Also, the authorities also earmarked five acres for establishing an Industrial Training Institute adjacent to the driving institute.

Thereafter, Transport Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Sultania and a team of officials from the Ashok Leyland have also paid a visit to the site and were reportedly satisfied with the location.

As per Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between State Transport department and the Ashok Leyland, land will be provided free of cost by the State government for the project. Recently, the Revenue department reportedly handed over land possession papers to the IDTRI authorities.

The Rs 16.48 crore institute which offers classroom training as well as test tracks for enhancing driving skills is expected to cater to the needs of southern States.

Apart from imparting scientifically designed curriculum, the institute will have state-of-the-art driving simulators and an array of vehicles of different models for the benefit of trainees.

Stating that government has already released Rs 16.48 crore, Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy said: “Those who were trained in the IDTRI would get jobs world-wide with utmost ease.”
