Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao meets Modi in Delhi on Friday and made a request to this effect. Rao told Modi that the Telangana state government proposed to construct Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project with an estimated cost of Rs 71,436 crore. “Confer national project status on Kaleshwaram”, Rao urged the Prime Minister.

During the combined Andhra Pradesh regime, the then Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy conceived Pranahita-Chevella project and wanted the Centre to confer national project status for the same.

After the formation of Telangana State, Chandrasekhar Rao government redesigned and started reengineering of existing irrigation projects. Thus, the government limited Pranahita Chevella to Adilabad and now seeking national project status of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.

Apart from this, Chief Minister Rao also sought adequate funds for the IT Investment Region (ITIR) in Hyderabad. Rao also reiterated State’s demand that the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limit should be increased by 0.5 per cent taking the total to 3.5 per cent of the State’s GSDP. This will enable Telangana to borrow Rs 2,500 crore more every year.

TS Chief Minister Rao also wanted Prime Minister to allocate Rs 10,000 crore as a special assistance from the Central government for Mission Bhagiratha, scheme to provide piped safe drinking water to every household in the state.

Mission Bhagiratha was taken up by the TS with an estimated cost of Rs 40,000 crore.

Chief Minister Rao also urged Modi to provide sufficient funds in the 2016-17 Union Budget for the construction of AIMS. IPS OFFICERS: Rao requested the Prime Minister to increase the number of IPS officers from the present 112 to 141 to TS.

Besides this, Rao urged the Prime Minister for the early division of combined High Court between AP and TS. Recalling that the foundation for Tata Institution of Fundamental Research (TIFR) was laid in Hyderabad in 2010, Chief Minister Rao wanted Modi to give required permissions and funds for the institution.

The TIFR is coming up near Hyderabad Central University in Hyderabad with an estimated cost of Rs 2,500 crore.

In the evening, TS Chief Minister Rao is likely to meet Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and other Ministers.
