The Telangana Govt to Rebuild TSPSC Syllabus State service aspirants in Telangana will now have to adhere to a different syllabus to crack Group I, II, III, IV and other examinations conducted by the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC).
With an aim to shift the focus on Telangana and cut down content that was earlier part of the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC), the recently-formed TSPSC set up a committee on January 3 to oversee the overhaul of the syllabus.
The 25 member syllabus revision committee has academicians and policy makers from different backgrounds. As per the committee officials, even the pattern of the examination could be changed.
The proposal to revise the syllabus was mooted after it was noted that the existing APPSC syllabus does not include the socio-economic imperatives of the Telangana state. As per subject experts, aspirants will now have to read up on history, polity, social demographics, economic imperatives and cultural aspects of Telangana.
For instance, the APPSC syllabus gives prominence to certain aspects of Andhra Pradesh’s geographical aspects like canal irrigation and floods. But in the new TSPSC syllabus, the focus would be on ground water irrigation and drought management, parameters that are connected to the geographical and socio-economic conditions of Telangana.
“If an officer is appointed to serve the people of a state, he/she will have to be familiar with the socio-economic imperatives of that state. Most of APPSC syllabus is based on the socio-economic conditions of residuary Andhra Pradesh,” said K Nageshwar, professor at Osmania University and ex-MLC, who is a member of the syllabus committee.
Most of the syllabus change would be seen, predictably, in history and geography. However, sources indicated that even the general aptitude of the candidate would be tested differently. The committee is expected to hold its first meeting shortly and subsequently finalise the changes, members said.
While the state government has not notified posts as of now, the committee will work on pattern of examination and syllabus of TSPSC examination.
The committee will also set different syllabi for each of the groups (I, II, III and IV) so that questions are asked in accordance with the basic skill sets and knowledge required of each class of officers. Earlier, allegations were made against APPSC for setting the bar a bit too high even for candidates appearing for lower-rung service posts.
“APPSC has not been testing candidates based on the expertise that is expected of each state service groups (I, II, III and IV). TSPSC’s syllabus will be adapted to fit these criteria,” said Nageswar. The Telangana government, meanwhile, is expected to notify government posts soon.
