Telangana state get Central Government award
Telangana is conferred the Skoch order-of-merit during the 37th Skoch Summit held on “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” at the India Habitat Centre. The award came to NIC Telangana for efficiently using e-PDS, the IT and PDS software, to eliminate corruption and wastage of public resources and government funds.
NIC developed Public Distribution System(PDS) Software by using the State-of-the-art technology and the software is utilized by Civil Supplies Department to eliminate bogus cards/units with Aadhaar authentication and due to this the Department has been able to deactivate 10.13 lakh bogus cards from June to September 2014 and about 50.98 lakh bogus units have been deactivated. The e-PDS which was in use since April 2013 in Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts
was rolled out to 10 districts of Telangana state in June 2014, after the Telangana State has been formed.
With this, the Department was able to save 16.544 Metric Tonnes of rice and 24,60,000 litres of Kerosene as of September 2014. Further Aadhaar seeding is in progress and has increased from 63% to 89% in last 3 months eliminating lost of fake accounts. The special drive for elimination of bogus cards is likely to be completed by end of this month and the final savings will be known then.
This effort of Telangana Government is now recognized at The 37th Skoch Summit awards, where states from across country are recognized for their efforts in improving governance across several departments.
Ministry of Panchayat Raj, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology etc., are the ministries which participated in this brainstorming that is being held from 18th Sept. The theme of this summit has been Minimum “Government and Maximum Governance”.
In the summit, the NIC Telangana unit has been awarded with an order of merit award and Sri C.Partha Sarathi, I.A.S., Commissioner of Civil Supplies, Dr. Padma, I.A.S., Chief Rationing Officer and Smt.Sabita, Technical Director, (Retd.) National Informatics Centre (Telangana) and Sri Shivaji, Technical Director, NIC (Telangana) have received the Certificate and award on behalf of NIC and the Government of Telangana on 19th Sept at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.
