The newest entrants to the Hyderabad Comic Con 2014 are the local strongmen Baahubali and Bhalala Deva, who will be jostling for space with the international comic characters and onscreen icons.
‘Baahubali crown’ from the most-awaited Telugu period flick ‘Baahubali’ takes centre stage at the event. The three-day Comic Con, which began on Friday, had about 100 exhibitors displaying local and international merchandise.
Replacing the colourful and whacky costumes synonymous with superheroes, the “Baahubali crown” replete with royalty and grandeur took the centre stage at the Friday’s event. As part of the promotion drive of the most-awaited multi-lingual movie, Baahubali, the young audience were given a chance to wear the crown, directly flown from the sets, and pose for photos.
Touted to be the highest budgeted Telugu period flick, it is also the first South-Indian movie to debut at the Comic Con.
“Even though Hindi films were promoted at the Comic Con earlier, this is the first time a Telugu movie’s characters are being promoted at the event,” said Jatin Varma, Founder, Comic Con India Pvt. Ltd. “They will be a part of the rest of the events across the country too. We hope to see more of Indian characters at the event.”
One of the most popular parts of the event, Cos Play, will also see fans turning up like actors Prabhas, Rana or Anushka in the movie. The chosen winners will get a chance to visit the sets of the movie. On the final day of the event, a Baahubali look-alike will be brought to the event to mingle with the fans.
The three-day Comic Con, which began on Friday, had about 100 exhibitors displaying local and international merchandise. Apart from that, international comic writers and artists also participated in the event and interacted with the crowd. For the first time in the Hyderabad edition, three winners of the Cos Play will get a chance to fly to Chicago in 2015 for the Comics Expo.
