TRS MPs will meet the Union Home Minister, Rajnath Singh, on Thursday at 11 AM to lodge their protest against the move to grant special powers to the Governor to monitor the law and order situation in Hyderabad, the common capital area of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for 10 years.
TRS MP Vinod Kumar said that the letter sent by the Ministry of Home Affairs had no sanctity as it went beyond the scope of Section 8 of the A.P. State Reorganisation Act which clearly mentioned the manner in which the Governor’s powers should be exercised.
It was only in the event of hate crimes against people of one region that the Governor could intervene and exercise his discretion and that too after hearing the views of the Council of Ministers of Telangana.
There has been no single instance of hate crime till now and so there is no necessity for the extra powers to be discussed now, added the MP. He also said the team of MPS is confident they can convince the Home Minister to see the constitutional matters in the case and refrain from trying to push the circulars.
